Title: Challenges of Rough Terrain Navigation

Abstract: Prevalence of rough terrains in extraterrestrial exploration, emergency service missions, and other tasks not suitable for human oversight creates a niche for multi-legged robots. In this talk, I identify the challenges of hexapod robot navigation over such terrains. I overview the state-of-the-art methods addressing these challenges. Further, I present the work done in the Computational Robotics Laboratory, e.g., our terrain traversability estimation framework, and discuss the tasks that are yet to be addressed.
