Jakub Marecek designs and develops solvers for optimization and control problems at IBM Research. His work at IBM's Smarter Cities Technology Centre in Dublin focusses on polynomial optimization problems in power systems and closed-loop analyses of problems in urban traffic management and airline operations.
Jakub joined IBM Research from the School of Mathematics at the University of Edinburgh in August 2012, where he had worked on distributed solvers for non-smooth convex optimization problems.
Prior to this post-doc, he had presented an approach to general purpose integer programming in his dissertation at the University of Nottingham. Jakub grew up in Brno, the Czech Republic, where he had worked in two start-up companies before studying for his first degree.
